I met founder Brandon Walter through my friend Katie after he built and installed the shelving inside of her San Diego shop Little Dame. He mentioned he was working on a project and needed help designing a logo and Katie put him in touch with me.
Walter Brand is the culmination of Brandon Walter's passion for waves and his supreme attention to design and craft. We worked together to harness a pelican brandmark to help launch his new ware.
In our first meet up at the Modern Times brewery in North Park, I remember he brought sketches to the table. I loved that. It’s a unique and special experience getting to build off of and refine a founders vision for design. It imbues them with greater passion for the project and furthers their sense of empowerment and agency. At the same time though, this can be a nightmare with an obstinate stakeholder.
Luckily for me, working with Brandon was the kind of dream scenario where our visions were congruent and the end I felt like we actually each pushed each other to become better in our own crafts. I felt like we each at varying points asked really insightful questions that led to a deeper understanding of the product and process.
